A time of new beginnings

Things are pretty busy right now. We are ending one semester and beginning another one. As we move into the last semester of 8th grade year, let's prepare to dig deeper, engage more and continue to evolve from fixed mindsets to growth mindsets. In all classes, we are continuing to explore topics in geometry: angles, lines, shapes and transformations.

In first block, we are deep into the transformations unit and working on wind turbine projects. In second and third blocks, we are going loony for lines and angles. After we are finished with geometry, we will begin working on functions and slope.

I am so proud of each of you, I am so blessed to be your teacher!!! Let's do this!!!

End of the nine weeks

As we approach the end of the 1st nine weeks of school, I hope you are discovering the brilliance that lies within you. I hope you have discovered the key to increasing by 10 for this year. We set clear goals at the beginning of the nine weeks. This is a time of reflection. Ask yourself these questions to assess how you have performed this nine weeks:

  1. Have I shown characteristics of a growth mindset daily?
  2. What can I do more regularly to ensure that my growth potential is met and exceeded?
  3. When dealing with my peers, am I encouraging and supportive?
  4. What three changes can I make to ensure more success next nine weeks than this nine weeks?
I implore you to take the time to reflect on these questions and take active steps to increase 10!!!

Settling In

As we  conclude the first 10 days of school, I must admit: "I have thoroughly enjoyed my classes". You guys rock! We have explored and investigated, pondered and debated. We have accomplished so much in the past two weeks. We will explore the real number system, rational number operations, scientific notation, exponent rules and solving various equations this nine weeks. Whew!!! We will then be a quarter of the way through our 8th grade curriculum.

I look forward to explorations and discovery with you this year! Let's do it!! Brainiacs are in command!!! Mathematicians are on the rise!!!
